The town’s newest event, the Hill City Writer’s Workshop, “For the Love of Words!” (HCWW) had all the write stuff for inspiring writers last weekend.

Hill City Arts Council literary board member Gervase Hittle invited local writers to mentor participants and/or present during public sessions during the two-day event.

Pamela Smith Hill, the editor of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s “Pioneer Girl: The Annotated Autobiography” and author of “Laura Ingalls Wilder: A Writer’s Life”; Dan O’Brien, the author of 13 fiction and nonfiction books; poet Norma C. Wilson, professor emeritus of the University of South Dakota; and Kent Meyers, an award-winning author of a memoir, a book of short fiction and three novels, were chosen to mentor the 25 individuals who paid $200 for more intensive writing instruction.
One such person was Anthony Flores of Rapid City, who has published a science fiction novel and a short story, but was looking to improve his writing skills.

“I decided to be a part of it (HCWW) because I’ve never done a workshop before and I thought it would be an interesting experience as someone who’s always trying to get better at my writing,” he said.
