Richard Johnson

Richard “Dick” Garold Johnson was born Oct. 27, 1942, in Spearfish, S.D., to Jerome and Beatrice (Parett) Johnson. He attended school in Igloo, S.D., and Edgemont, S.D., moving to Sturgis, S.D., and later to Rapid City, S.D.
Dick enlisted in the Army Reserve in the 1960s. He married Betty O’Neill Dec. 21, 1968, in Box Elder, S.D., making their home in Ashland Heights. One daughter, Jessie, was born to this union.
Dick worked at various locations and positions, including Wood Span Mfg., Kenwood Mobile Home Mfg., as a school bus driver in the Douglas School System and at Ultramax Ammunition Mfg. Dick also loved country music and played for years with The Roadmaster Band. In his spare time, Dick enjoyed being outdoors trapping, hunting and fishing.
Dick, of Hill City, S.D., died Oct. 13, 2015, in Rapid City. He was 72.
He was  preceded in death by his parents, Jerome and Beatrice; a sister, Bonnie; and a brother, Ronald.  
He is survived by his wife of almost 47 years, Betty; daughter, Jessie Lichterman; grandchildren, Dawn, Derek and Dean; sisters, Rita Colvin, Ramona Johnson, Regina Thompson and Catherine Johnson; brothers, Roger, Russell, Rodney and Jerome; and a host of nieces, nephews and other extended family.
Funeral services were Oct. 19 at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis. Burial followed at Bear Butte Cemetery, also in Sturgis.
