The Hill City girls finished in the middle of the pack at the Class A State Girls Cross Country Meet in Sioux Falls on Oct. 24. The team placed eighth out of the 16 competing teams. Custer took first in Class A with a total time of 1:18.40. Beresford was second in 1:20:37.49, Flandreau came in third with 1:21:00.99, Mt. Vernon/Plankington took fourth at 1:21:14.27, St. Thomas Moore was fifth in 1:21:38.02, Todd County was sixth in a time of 1:22:19.18 and Garretson took seventh at 1:22:34.02. Hill City finished with a cumulative time 1:23:09.43.
The top finisher for Hill City was sophomore Marion Hohn, who tied for 20th place with a time of 19:58.672. She was followed by teammates, seventh grader Kadyn Comer in 34th place at 20:39.90, junior Skylar Ross in 44th place at 20:56.56, 72nd place finisher freshman Taleigh Adrian at 21:34.31, junior Makaley Anderson in 74th place at 21:34.82 and 112th place finisher freshman Lizzette Meza at 23:05.46.
Top five individual state finishers were Ella Byers of Chamberlain in first at 18:42.211, second place finisher Maddie Lavin of Vermillion at 10:01.4211, Tori Glazier of Custer in third at 19:09:6912 and fourth place finisher Cami Streff of Madison at 19:15.0613.
