It was on again, off again regarding the pay city officials should receive for attending Keystone Town Board meetings. The rate per board member for attending meetings was set at $30 many years ago and more recently raised to $50 per meeting. The board holds two regular meetings a month and schedules special meetings as deemed necessary. Board members attending other meetings that pertain to city business are also included and may include mileage and/or expenses. Due to budget constraints of the past year, the board decided to take another look at ways to cut costs.
At its Jan. 6 meeting, a second reading was given on Supplemental Budget Ordinance 72-15A to take $7,016.14 from Keystone's contingency fund to cover additional expenses from 2015 in the amounts of $1,248.01 to pay trustees for attending meetings, $3,395.12 for insurance and $2,373.01 to the Keystone Community Center for unbudgeted expenses for last year.
At that time, it was voted to approve new Resolution 31-01-2016 regarding pay for its elected officials and lowering reimbursement per meeting from $50 back to $30 per regular meeting. According to the minutes, a motion was made to approve the reduction by trustee Cathy Madison and seconded by trustee Kwinn Neff. Trustee Oakes voted aye with Neff and Ball nay.
On Jan. 20, a motion was made by Neff, seconded by Madison to approve the minutes as read regarding the Jan.15 meeting, which was approved with all board members present.
