
He was a dedicated Rotarian, serving as club president and assistant district governor. He also devoted time as a member of the Hill City Ambulance board of directors.
Monte was a loving, caring, generous man with a contagious laugh. He will be missed by those left behind.
Monte, 68, passed away Friday, Feb. 5, 2016, at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Ill., following a battle with heart failure with his best friend and devoted wife by his side.
He is survived by his wife, Peg (Mammosser); step-son, Everett Dolphin of Columbus, Ind.; brothers, Nicholas (Bobbi) of Rapid City, S.D., and Joel (Mary) of Sturgis, S.D.; and hsister, Mary (Mike) Erhart of Rapid City.
Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 12, at Fred C. Dames Funeral Home in Joliet, Ill. As per Monte’s request, cremation rites were accorded. Monte will now return to the Black Hills to the Blessed Sacrament Church at 4500 Jackson Boulevard in Rapid City for a mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Friday, Feb. 19, at 11 a.m. Monte will then return to Illinois in the spring for interment at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery where full military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Navy.
