The Ranger Field Renovation Committee (RFRC) has raised approximately $641,000 in received or pledged donations, a total that is $41,000 over the RFRC initial goal to reach $600,000 by the end of May. This achievement will allow the renovation’s plans to move ahead as scheduled, with ground breaking expected to start in June.
Large donations from several area businesses have helped the RFRC get to this point. Black Hills Community Bank donated $20,000, Recreational Adventures Co./Mount Rushmore KOA at Palmer Gulch gave $50,000, 1880 Train contributed $50,000 and Neiman Enterprises/Rushmore Forest Products donated $100,000.
Last week, Andy Scull of Scull Construction submitted the offical renovation plans to the Forest Service for approval. Due to Hill City School’s special use permit on the property, the Forest Service must accept these plans before construction can begin. However, RFRC member Mike Welu has met with the Forest Service and was told the approval process “should be fairly quick.”
